Saxophone Techniques
There are three basic Saxophone techniques.
Embouchure is when the
mouthpiece is about halfway into the mouth of the player. The
lower lip is supported by the lower teeth and the upper lip is resting
on the mouth piece. Also a high position tongue within the mouth is very
important. Saxophone
Vibrato is when the player
uses the jaw instead of diaphragm of fingers to make vibrations. Vibrato
be made by your tongue, although this is more difficult then the jaw
vibrato.
Tone effects are used to
create different sounds. There are many tone effects to use.
Growling is when the saxophonist sings, hums or growls, with the back of
the throat while playing. Glissando is
a technique where the saxophonist bends the note using voicing or tongue
placement while sliding up or down to another finger note at the same
time. Multi phonics is to play more than one note at once. A
special fingering combination creates a warbling sound. Voicing
or manipulating the are stream involves changing the
position of the tongue and throat.
