A three hole flute made of mammoth tusk, and a flute made from swans bones from about 30,000 to 37,000 years ago, are one the the oldest known musical instruments.  In Genesis 4:21 in the bible cites Jubal as being the inventor of the flute.

The flute produces sound by air blown across the hole of the instrument, bouncing it in and out of the holes. Pitch of a note is changed by covering and uncovering the holes in the body of the flute, and/or changing the pressure of the air going into the instrument.

To play the flute, the air stream MUST be directed at the correct angel to create vibration.  The air stream is directed by the shape of the players lips.  The player blows into the flute as if blowing into a bottle.

The concert flute is one of the most common orchestral instruments.  The standard concert flute is in the key of C pitch, and has 3 octave ranges starting from middle C.  The professional flute usually made of silver.  Student flutes are generally made of nickel or silver plated brass.  The key pads are usually made up of fish skin.
