| All The
Instruments dot com welcomes you to our Bagpipe
section.
The Bagpipe has an air supply, a bag, a chanter
and a drone. To create Air Supply blow into the
blowpipe, and cover the tip with your tongue while inhaling. Some are
fitted with a non-return valve. The Bag is an airtight sack
that holds and flows the air while you breath or pump with a bellows,
making sound for quite some time. The bag is usually made of pig,
sheep, cow or goat skin. The Chanter (melody pipe) is
played by one or more hands. Most have a double reed. The
chanter is open-ended, making it difficult to stop the pipe from making
sound. Alot of chanters are unkeyed. There are many
different types of chanters. A Drone or cylindrical tube has a
single reed. It is made with two or more parts with a sliding joint so
that the pitch can be changed. Drones are made of wood. Some
have a tuning bead that changes the length of the drone by opening a
hole, making it tuned to two or more pitches. The tuning bead can
shut off the drone. |
